Monday was National Burger Day, and I had a block of gorgeous bleu cheese that we purchased from a local cheese shop. That could only mean one thing. I HAD to make my Bleu Cheese Stuffed Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms that I posted back in 2014. When I brought up the ORIGINAL POST I noticed that it needed A LOT of love not to mention I have updated the recipe quite a bit. So I am reposting the updated version here. I know you're gonna love it so ENJOY!
When the sun is shining and the warm breezes are blowing, you don't want to be trapped indoors!
Many of us, during this season, are heading into the great outdoors and firing up our grills!
Studhubs and I are no different, and when I think about grilling, one of the first things I think about is a nice, thick, juicy burger.
However, five months of your basic burger can get a little dull. BUT, it doesn't have to! Like anything else a great burger is only limited to your imagination! You need only go to the fridge or open up the pantry and dozens of variations are at your fingertips!
Here is one such burger that was birthed out of using what we had on hand!
It is juicy, and full of flavor, and you are going to love it!
Let's Get Started!
Bleu Cheese Stuffed Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms
*Prep Time: 30 minutes *Cook Time: 10-12 minutes *Difficulty: Easy *Servings: 2 Burgers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 5 oz. of Bleu Cheese
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 oz Sliced Baby Bella Mushrooms
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 3 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- A1 Steak Sauce, to baste
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Buns of your choice
Before you begin prepping your burgers, you will need to caramelize your onions and mushrooms.
Can I just take one moment to say that if you have never tried properly caramelized onion,
you have not lived. (I still stand by this statement.)
You will need to melt your butter in a skillet over medium/low heat.
Add your olive oil.
Slice your onions.
Then, add the onions to the pan.
Season with salt and pepper and let cook on medium/low heat for 30 minutes,
stirring occasionally.
If your pan begins to dry out, just add a little water. (I add a 1/4 cup at a time)
One of the updates I made was the addition of mushrooms.
At the 20 min mark I add 2 Tbsp of butter to the pan and the 4 oz of mushroom. I let them cook with onions and it is DELISH! I also added a few dashes of worcestershire sauce for even more flavor!
After 30 minutes, your onions will look like this.
Soft, sweet, and full of flavor.
I'm pretty excited because Studhubs has agreed to show you how to make HIS burgers.
I know that a lot of people say this about their burgers, but his are THE BEST! Hejust hasa gift. If you watch him, it is like watching a master artist work. They are perfectly juicy and moist every time!
First, you season your ground beef with 1/2 of the garlic and onion powder, along with salt and pepper.
Then he works that into the meat.
He then folds the meat in half, and...
Seasons it again with the other half.
Works it into the meat,
Then works it into a ball.
After that, he shapes the ball into a log and then separates the meat into two patties.
Of course these are going to be BIG burgers, but we are extra like that. Of course you can make smaller versions. But what would you want to do that? lol
He presses it into a thin patty.
He adds the cheese to the center of the burger.
DON'T skimp on the cheese y'all! Pack it in there!
You just know this is going to be good.
Then he folds the meat around the cheese,
And makes it into a nice patty.
They will look like this when they are finished.
He seasons them one final time with salt and pepper.
Then it isout to the grill.
To prep the grill he turns on the burners.
We have a pretty high powered grill so we turn it on medium,
but a lesser powered one may require high.
He brushes it down and, with an old towel, coats the grates with oil.
Now it is time to grill these beauties.
Lay them out, careful not to crowd them.
You will want to watch for flare ups or hot spots.
You may need to move your patties if they begin to cook to fast.
Cook them for 4-6 minutes on one side and then flip.
Time for the second big update that I made to this recipe!
Once I flip the burger I brushed a layer of A1 Steak Sauce over the entire burger! This just adds SO MUCH FLAVOR and it really compliments the bleu cheese!
Allow them to cook for another 4-6 minutes.
When they are fully cooked, pile them high with the caramelized onions.
OH.MY.GOODNESS! How STUNNING is this burger!?!
Oh, and lets not forget the inside!
Look at all that great gorgonzola permeating the juicy beef!
YUM!
So this summer, don't get stuck grilling the same ol' burgers over and over. Get a little adventurous! Give these delicious Bleu Cheese Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms a whirl may just become a new family favorite!
And as always...
