Grammys 2013 recap: The flash, the flesh and the fantastic (2024)

The 2013 Grammy Awards saw unofficial "last real rock bandstanding" The Black Keys collecting U2-levels of hardware.

CBS cameras seem to pan to pop-country sweetheart/serialdater Taylor Swift during every other musicians' live performances (and Swiftappeared to sing along to every song with the naïve joy of a teen attendingtheir first concert). Buxom pop singer Katy Perry presented the award forBreast New Artist...whoops, Best New Artist.

Grammy host and noted Kangol enthusiast LL Cool J went througha mere two hats. Former "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson gave the mostrock 'n' roll acceptance speech of the evening.

Sure, the 2013 Grammys actually had its share of spectacle(Frank Ocean's yellow-suited, headband-wearing "Forrest Gump" performance,Carrie Underwood's illuminated dress). But there were also actually plenty ofreal deal performances (the Levon Helm homage, Clarkson's Pattie Page/CaroleKing tribute, Jack White's two-song explosion, Black Keys' New Orleans-goosed "LonelyBoy," Justin Timberlake's sepia-toned return).

Here's a 2013 Grammys broadcast recap - the flash, the flesh and thefantastic:
