Learn more about the Brandywine Museum of Art's newest exhibition, "Joseph Stella: Visionary Nature," now on view through Sept. 24! "The most riveting work in the exhibition is Stella’s massive 'Flowers, Italy' (1931). The painting’s cathedral-like pillars and gothic arches mysteriously grow out of a floral base—or perhaps the flowers erupt from the pillars. Stella’s signature strong central focus is balanced by natural forms on either side that seem identical but are not. The imaginative flora and fauna are filled with multiple painting techniques—sections are stippled or seem to drip—and the work sums up the dichotomy of Stella’s career: a futurist impulse tempered by his love of nature’s fluidity."

My latest article, about the new exhibition at Galeria Municipal do Porto 🍂 The gallery has held an exciting position in Porto's cultural scene, determined to investigate and expose the relationship between the city and its natural environment, through contemporary art."On a journey between mythology and tradition, rurality and creativity, I felt this exhibition as a true love letter to our North. After some time in the gallery, the experience becomes truly magical, a foretaste of how these montains, rivers, forests and creatures are responding to the 'reconstruction of climates, identities, mythologies and narratives.'”Read it here:

#Dresden #artteft #weenix #provenance #provenanceresearch #arthistory #restitution #collectionmanagement #récolementDresden Museum "had no image of the missing painting. The inventory number on the back also did not match with the Dresden inventory number, so it took some time to identify the painting conclusively."On the importance of good collection management practices: photograph the work, make sure it is accessioned, and mark it with the correct accession number. The provenance could have been established years earlier - maybe even 1984 when it came back on the market, had the museum adopted these (hopefully, it is the case at The British Museum).https://lnkd.in/eWYkmygu

Explore Ben Sanderson's exhibition, OUROBOROS, where art transforms into a spatial experience. The gallery becomes a tapestry of temporary rooms crafted from repurposed paintings. Each piece holds intentional 'fronts' and serendipitous 'backs,' playing distinct roles in this artistic narrative.Sanderson invests meticulous energy into the 'fronts,' featuring top-stitched, colour-block patterns housing smaller paintings. A deliberate process unfolds as selected artworks find their place within collaged walls, creating a visual symphony of thoughts.Conversely, the 'backs' reveal a fully improvised artistic journey, surprising even the creator. They embody the repository of subconscious thoughts, akin to crawling through a hedge of creativity. Unplanned and spontaneous, the backs hold fragments that resist categorization. It's a dance of confusion and clarity, where fronts emerge from old backs, and backs are born from old fronts.Ben Sanderson’s OUROBOROS exhibition invites you to explore this intricate interplay between intention and spontaneity, where every piece tells a unique story. Dive into the realm of transformed art, where the frontiers of creativity are blurred, and the unexpected takes centre stage. The challenge of art forgery is present within the institutional (museum) system as the collective expertise is capable of failure to determine what is a fake artwork. Read Hephaestus Analytical latest informative post.

Street art is a form of visual art that is created and displayed in public spaces, typically outside of traditional art galleries or museums. It often takes the form of murals, graffiti, stencils, wheatpaste posters, and other artistic expressions on buildings, walls, sidewalks, and other public surfaces. Street art can be a powerful and thought-provoking medium for self-expression, social commentary, and beautification of urban environments.
