4 Ingredient Bone Broth Bread Recipe! (1)

I’ve been wanting to share this recipe on the blog for a while now. This year, I want to share more recipes with you all, so I’m starting out 2019 with this amazing nutrient-dense bone broth bread which is gluten free, yeast free, sugar free, grain free, paleo, & candida diet friendly! And wanna hear the crazy part…this bread contains only 4 ingredients!!

I very rarely buy bread anymore. Don’t get me wrong I love a good piece of toast, obviously gluten free, but I really don’t buy packaged bread due to the additives found within the ingredients. If you pick up a bag of gluten free bread, the ingredients list is CRAZY! Gums galore! If you aren’t familiar with “gums”, they are basically a thickening agent added to many gluten & dairy free alternatives. Intrigued? You can check out my 30-Second Nut Milk post for a lot more info on the topic of gums & the specific names to watch out for!

So a little about this bread. This idea of a flourless bread was inspired by Lilsipper. I had bone broth protein powder sitting in my pantry & I wanted to experiment. She has used different (clean) protein powders in her bread recipes, which got me thinking whether or not I could use my bone broth protein powder! Well I tried it & it turned out amazing!

So let’s talk a little about bone broth.

“Bone broth has a rich history of being used in traditional Chinese medicine as adigestive tonic, blood builder, andkidney strengthenerdue to thehigh collagen content, bioavailable minerals, anti-inflammatory amino acids, andhealing compoundsthat can only be found in bones and connective tissue.” –Kettle & Fire

Amazing right? My mom, again, SO ahead of the trends, has been using & making bone broth for years. If you’ve never made bone broth, basically the longer you cook the broth, the more nutrients are released from the bones of whatever you are using. But here’s the thing, bone broth takes both prep & time. Specifically at least 24 hours, if you want a good batch. And don’t worry, I will be sharing my mom’s recipe for homemade bone broth here on the blog as well, just not today.

So I now introduce the next best thing – Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Protein. My mom again, introduced me to this product after reading a book by Dr. Josh Axe called “Eat Dirt“. Dr. Axe developed the Ancient Nutrition brand as well as the Bone Broth Protein Powder products & his book is basically a guide to heal your gut. Bone broth, as mentioned above, is wonderful to consume if you are someone who struggles with digestive issues, IBS, or leaky gut, due to the high collagen count. Collagen basically helps reseal the lining of the gut, if you aren’t familiar.

I started incorporating collagen into my diet last November, so over a year ago, & I always recommend it to everyone. I absolutely love it, Vital Proteins in particular. BTW, VP also has a bone broth collagen blend. It’s one of their few products that I haven’t tried, but I do know it’s a bit more crystalized in consistency. The Ancient Nutrition bone broth protein that I’m talking about today is a smooth powder.

This PURE bone broth protein is made from real chicken bone broth with NO extra additives. The ONLY ingredient this powder contains is chicken bone broth protein concentrate. No whey. No gums. No additives. No stevia. Just how I like it! BUT with that said, the Ancient Nutrition brand has multiple flavors, excluding the PURE, that DO contain gums, stevia, & added flavors such as their chocolate, vanilla, & coffee flavors! Like I mentioned before, just because it’s a reputable brand, you still have to read the ingredients!!!

With that said,Ancient Nutrition PURE bone broth powder is Non GMO, all natural, contains no artificial ingredients, free of common allergens, is gluten free, dairy free, soy free, grain free, nut free, gut & paleo friendly! It supports healthy skin, hair, nails, digestive health, joint & bone health, healthy immune function, & healthy detoxification. And is a wonderful source of protein with 20g of protein per serving.

I use this powder often, especially for Devin, but I wanted to cram all of these benefits into bread form. As I mentioned above, I don’t eat bread frequently, but I do LOVE a good avocado toast, so I went ahead & gave it a try.

This bone broth bread recipe is seriously SO easy.

I stored it in the fridge, but you can also freeze it, if you want to have it on hand. Not only is this recipe filled with so many amazing vital nutrients, it is also:

  • Sugar free
  • Yeast free
  • Gluten free
  • Grain free
  • Dairy free (if you don’t count eggs)
  • Candida Diet friendly
  • Paleo friendly

The recipe for this bread calls for a smooth nut or seed butter. I used Dastony Watermelon Seed Butter & it turned out amazing. Feel free to use any nut or seed butter of your choice. Cashew or almond butter would be a great option, as well as, sunflower butter. But be aware that if you use sunflower butter, the bread may turn green due to the chlorophyll in the seeds reacting to the baking soda! It’s still very much edible though!!

I also sprinkled shelled hemp seeds on the batter before I baked the bone broth bread. This is completely optional, but I wanted to something extra on top. Also, if you want to add a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup for a natural sweetener, feel free to do so. I tried it with a tablespoon of maple syrup & it was good…obviously not too sweet but it was a nice flavor if you are looking for such.
